General ideas how you can become involved in the ashram development with your individual abilities. All these ideas below are a bit flexible and can be taken on in part or whole:

Adopt a Room

This opportunity allows anyone to adopt a room at the ashram. The first rooms up for adoption are the 2nd and 3rd floor rooms in the main house. Each room has particular and different needs. Some of the needs include:

- New drop ceiling installed. The ceilings are already dropped ceilings but the cross pieces are rusted and need replaced. We have the ceiling tiles, but need the aluminum cross pieces replaced.

- Making sure the windows are functional (some are, some aren't)

- Sanding the wood floors, staining and finishing (not looking for high gloss and perfection, but want them to look nice)

- Make screens for the windows

- Checking all electrical outlets for function

In adopting a room to get it up to par for habitation you can stop with the above steps which would be adopt a portion and someone else can adopt the rest of it; if you want to adopt the full room then you would go on with the rest of the project which is furnish it completely which includes such things as:

- Two twin beds, mattresses and box springs, pillows, blankets, sheets, pillowcases

- Two lamps

- Mirrors

- Night stands

- Dressers

- Blinds/Curtains

- Hangers for the closet/and check for closet poles

- Any other items that make the room homey

- Any wall art/hangings etc.

The person/people who adopt rooms get to name the rooms as well.

Also know that some of the furnishings may be purchased or donated by others so adopting a room may not include every single thing listed below. Direct any questions to Bhairavi at contact@leelamata.com

Adopt a project

The idea here is that the person or persons who adopt a particular project pick something that they would really like to do and then get it done alone or with help.

For instance: A couple of the outbuildings are filled with "stuff" if someone adopted a project to clean out an outbuilding they would sort through the stuff, see what is useable, what is not and what can be sold for salvage and then haul it off to the appropriate places.

Other projects: build a greenhouse, start an organic garden, oversee the renovation of the voting booth etc.

Offer a skill

The idea here is to offer a particular skill that you have. For instance: if you are a woodworker you could offer your skill in woodworking to build some closets in the small rooms in the wings or construct worktables for the workshop or replace or repair wood flooring etc.

If you have some expertise in plumbing you could offer your skill in getting the bathrooms in the wings operational.

If you cook, perhaps you could offer to provide the food and cook for the karma yoga days.

If you are a massage therapist you could bring a table and work on those people who have been performing physical labor all day.

Donate/track down equipment

Just what it says; donate any equipment that you either have or want to take the job of locating for a good price so the ashram can buy it. For instance we are going to need a sandblaster and everything that goes with it. We will also need a floor sander for awhile.

We will need lots of painting stuff like brushes, drop cloths, paint pans and anything else that goes with that job. Consult the wish list for items we thought of or tell us what you have and we will let you know if we need it. Thanks!

Prepaid stays

This gist of this is that you can pre-pay now for stays later on at the ashram to help us with up front operating dollars. It would be a credit to your account for use at a later date in any amount you choose.

Donate furniture

When it is all said and done we will have about 30 bedrooms, several sitting areas, and other areas that will require furniture. If you have anything you are not using that is nice and has quite a bit of life left in it, please let us know. Also, you can consult the wish list and find out what we might need new or gently used to furnish other rooms in the house or wings.

Equip a room

You might wonder how this is different from adopt a room. This is more like the room is pretty much alright but needs the equipment to be put in it. For example: to equip a storage room for the items we collect we will need the following:

Lots of storage racks, tarps, labels, shelving, etc, etc. or the kitchen needs:

Towels, utensils, pots and pans, silverware, spices, etc, etc. You could recruit people you know to help you collect the items.

Donate appliances

Again, just what it says. Check the wish list or run things past us that we haven't thought of yet. For instance: washers/dryers/ stoves/refrigerators/ blenders/mixers etc, etc.

Donate Van and/or trailer

Hey, you never know what people have sitting around that they are not using and if you don't ask…. The type of van that we are thinking of us a passenger van in which we can pick people up at the airport and then we also utilize it around the ashram with a trailer to haul things about.

Donate tools

As you can imagine we are going to need a lot of tools and a great variety of them. If you have any extras or ones you don't use, bring them over. Also, anytime you go to a garage sale, pick up a couple and bring them the next time you come or deposit them at our Canton storage facility also known as Narada & Leigh Ann's garage - just call Leigh Ann at (330) 323-9185.

Clean the attic and basement

In case you never got around to Spring cleaning time, now is a good time to clean out cupboards, attics and basements and encourage your friends to do the same and see if there is anything that you don't use that we could.

Summer/Fall Camping

Cook forest is very close to the ashram and it is a great place to hike, canoe and enjoy. If you, friends and family and even your dogs want to come and campout in exchange for a little karma yoga (aka work) we have the facilities to do so. You can utilize the indoor bathrooms and showers. This is a great atmosphere to come home to and if there are yoga classes going on at that time, you are welcome to participate.
