Ayurveda "the science of life" originated in India over 5000 years ago and is regarded as the "mother of all healing". Traditionally it has been handed down from accomplished masters to the disciples. Today some of this knowledge is recorded, yet much of it remains hidden and inaccessible.

In this workshop we will explore how body, mind and consciousness work together in maintaining balance and harmony. According to ayurvedic philosophy the entire cosmos is an interplay of energies of the five great elements - space, air, fire, water and earth. Vata, Pitta and Kapha are combinations and permutations of these elements that manifest as different patterns in all of creation, and can be related to the basic biology of the body. Vata is the energy of movement, Pitta the energy of metabolism and transformation, while Kapha is the energy of giving lubrication and structure to the body.

We will also explore the "shad darshan" - the six philosophies of life (sankhya, nyaya, vaisheshika, mimamsa, yoga and vedanta) and see how ayurveda incorporates them into this body of knowledge and healing therapies. Included will be some paranayama, yoga and meditations. This workshop lays the foundation for linving the life of enlightenment.
